Cathy Segal-Garcia is an L.A.-based jazz singer, recording artist, educator, and composer.

She has performed for over 30 years with literally hundreds of musicians, some of the more well known include Russell Ferrante, Tom Brechtlein, Marc Johnson, Gary Willis, Ted Greene, Jeff Richman, Mike Miller, Bob Sheppard, Peter Erskine, Kei Akagi, Joey Barron, Mike Lang, Diana Krall, John Robinson, David Benoit, Billy Childs, Joey Heredia, Sam Most, Carl Schroeder, Bill Berry, Don Menza, Dave Mackay, John Pisano...the list goes on. She has sung in styles that range from bebop to modern jazz.

In demand internationally and nationally for clinics, private teaching, compositions, live performances and studio recording, Cathy has traveled Australia, Argentina, throughout Europe, and Japan.

Cathy created The Vocal Workshop Network in 1997, hosting various clinicians, including herself, every month, sometimes several a month. These workshops cover performance, technique, preparation, studio work, jazz, blues, Brazilian, music business, internet.. anything that a singer would be interested in, and many times other musicians and non-musicians are in attendance as well. As a composer/performer, Cathy is listed with Jazz Planet (www.jazzplanet.net) which is not a conventional music library, it is a growing database of great jazz performances and original compositions, organized specifically for licensing to media production companies.

Cathy composed and sang the radio theme song for the show, "the Hott Jazzy Jazz Show... Brenda Lee, the Sultry Soul Sister" on the Los Angeles station www.klasfm.com This show has jazz guests every week, on Saturday afternoons.

 

Cathy has created a show called "The Singers' Roundtable", which highlights several singers, sitting in the round, being interviewed by the host and answering questions from the audience. Of course, there's singing too!



To date, Cathy has six CDs under her own leadership: Point Of View , Song Of The Heart, Heart to Heart, Alone Together, Secret Life, and her new CD, Day by Day

Cathy was a founding member of The Jazz Vocal Coalition, a group of jazz educators and singers dedicated to helping jazz singers at all levels ... from students to professionals ... through education, networking, and promotion.

As of October 2006, the JZVOC is legally dissolved. Here's to a great creation, while it lasted!


Another forming group, the Alliance for Jazz Workshops, was formed out of Ms. Segal-Garcia's panel at the IAJE (International Association of Jazz Educators) in January of 2006. On the panel were distinguished jazz vocalists/clinicians Mark Murphy, Madeline Eastman, Kathy Kosins, Michele Weir, Jay Clayton...(pictured on the Teaching page) This Alliance is setting up a network of workshops across the planet, who are constantly active and open for traveling clinicians. Also an affiliate member of Sundrider, which is another franchise, self-employed marketing business, regarding health.
