Dan Davilla appeared in the jazz community around 2017. A quiet man, he appeared with an open heart, big ears, a sweet sense of humor and a beautiful soul.
He was in the audience at the Blue Whale 4 or 5 nights a week, Bar Fedora, Sam First, the GSpot…and other varied venues.
He ALWAYS bought the artist’s CDs. If the artist had more than one album, he bought each one.
He was the executive producer on more than 10 artists’ projects. If he didn’t produce, he would support the project or venue with extra money that they needed. Included in that list was Cathy Segal-Garcia, Mon David,
Dori Amarilio, Todd Hunter, Kathryn Bostic, Josh Nelson, Pierre Chambers, Mayita Dinos, Kulaks.
Dan was about 64 when his diabetes started getting out of control. He had a slow moving cancer as well. The Diabetes took one leg, and he was doing not too badly. He was building his muscles with a lot of PT and starting to walk with a prothestic or a walker. After a few months, he lost the other leg, and was in a different location without the abundant PT, so he slowed down considerably. Over the next two years his physical condition continued declining, keeping him in bed 24/7.
One would think this would be mentally and spiritually totally debilitating. But Dan…he was like an angel on earth. His temperament was almost always cheerful and kind. He hardly EVER had anything negative to say! Imagine that.
Friends and those who admired him visited, called, face-timed with him, even from across the country and the planet. Always Dan had conversations with jokes and kindnesses.
He finally moved on from this human existence a few months ago. He was at peace right up until the end.
Please join us in a most beautiful celebration of him.
A touch of the wonderful instrumentalists and vocalists who he loved
will be playing and speaking there.
Hopefully you, the audience, might say a few great things too!
